Description:
The master plan for the development of the core of Lincoln University campus was part of an international design competition. The design established balance between continuity and change. Contracts for the detailed design for the ceremonial entry to the campus followed in 1997.

The redevelopment of Lincoln campus fostered the cultivation of a strong identity for the campus through the exploration of three types of landscapes: The Reminiscent Landscape, the Interactive Landscape, and the Integrated Landscape.

The reminiscent landscape celebrates the history of place and draws it forward. The interactive landscape creates a climate for socialization and festivity. The integrated landscape embraces the surrounding landscape as a means of place-making while orchestrating a range of facilities.

The visual experience of architectural and symbolic features recall Lincoln’s beginnings; spatial hierarchy provides varied experiences and links to the heart of the campus; and existing landscape resources are integrated with new features to result in a contemporary and natural campus fabric.

Located near Christchurch, New Zealand, Lincoln University was established as an agricultural school in 1878 and is internationally renowned for agricultural, environmental and landscape architecture programs.
